Margaret Fitzpatrick, MD, MS

Dr. Fitzpatrick’s research interests include multi-drug resistant infections and antimicrobial stewardship in high-risk special patient populations, particularly those with chronic neurologic injury. Her research interests also encompass patient-reported outcomes related to infectious diseases and antimicrobial use.  She received her MD from Washington University School of Medicine in 2007 and then completed her Internal Medicine residency and Infectious Diseases fellowship at Northwestern University.  She also completed a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation degree during her ID fellowship.  Dr. Fitzpatrick then joined the faculty at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of medicine and began an HSR&D post-doctoral fellowship at CINCCH. During her HSR&D fellowship, she worked with her mentor, Dr. Charlesnika Evans, on multiple projects that examined the epidemiology of multidrug-resistant organisms and antimicrobial use in patients with spinal cord injury.  She is now an Associate Investigator at CINCCH and is the recent recipient of a VA Rehabilitation Research & Development career development award focused on improving management of urinary tract infections in patients with bladder dysfunction due to chronic neurologic diseases. She also remains involved in several other infectious-diseases related health services projects led by Dr. Evans and other CINCCH investigators. Dr. Fitzpatrick is involved with the CINCCH focus area: Improving care and care delivery for Veterans with Neurological Conditions.
