Dr. Bentrem, M.D., Head of surgical service at Jesse Brown VAMC is principal investigator on HSR&D project, “Directed Evaluation of Provider Learning Modules to Prevent Venous Thromboembolism after Major Cancer Surgery.”  There remains inadequate provision of guideline-recommended VTE prophylaxis after major cancer surgery. The goals of this project are to 1) identify provider and patient barriers to VTE chemoprophylaxis; 2) Evaluate whether education and audit-and-feedback to providers will increase the receipt of postoperative VTE chemoprophylaxis; 3) determine the costs of increased adherence to guide-line recommended VTE prophylaxis.
