Sandra L. Kletzel, PhD
My research focus is on neurorehabilitation that maximizes functional outcomes for Veterans living with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and related disorders, with specific interest in advancing non-pharmacological and non-invasive approaches. My VA training has focused primarily on cognitive rehabilitation in PD. This VA training includes a VA HSR fellowship (under the mentorship of Dr. Fran Weaver), a Polytrauma/TBI fellowship, a VA RR&D Career Development Award, Level-1 (CDA-1) and a CDA2. I manage the Research arm of the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Consortium Center at Hines VA, where we are creating a burgeoning research track that offers our Veterans opportunities to engage in research that is funded both locally at Hines and nationally. As I apply for funding as an independent investigator, with the goal to develop, evaluate and implement evidence-based interventions to improve outcomes in Veterans with PD, I seek to bolster the multidisciplinary collaborations I fostered at the Hine VA over the past 10 years which includes energetic partners in neurology, sleep medicine, mental health, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, radiology, ophthalmology, and whole health.
