Yinglin Xia, PhD, MS
Dr. Yinglin Xia is a Statistician (Health) at Jesse Brown VAMC and Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) since August 2023. Before August 2023, Dr. Xia was a Research Professor in the Department of Medicine at UIC. He was a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Computational Biology at the University of Rochester (Rochester, NY) and Researcher at the Department of Veterans Affairs (Canandaigua, NY) before joining AbbVie (North Chicago, IL) as a Clinical Statistician. He joined UIC as a Research Associate Professor in 2015. He completed his Master of Science in Medical Statistics at the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY and his Master of Science in Applied Statistics with Distinction at the DePaul University, Chicago. He is a graduate of the Sun Yat-sen University, China, with Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy.
Dr. Xia has been closely collaborated with the academic faculty and clinical collaborators in NIH, VA, DOD, CDC, ACS, and CCFA funded institutes and pharmaceutical company for their grant applications, study designs, data analysis, writing method section of manuscripts for peer view, and consulting on methodological and statistical issues. As a co-investigator or statistician, he has over 100 grant and VA merit award application experiences. He has served as a reviewer for international funding agencies and applied statistics workshop in 5 countries: Canada, UK, Croatia, France, and Austria.
Dr. Xia has successfully applied his statistical study design and data analysis skills to clinical trials, medical statistics, biomedical sciences, and social and behavioral sciences. He has published more than 160 statistical methodology and research papers in peer-reviewed journals. He serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals including as an Associate Editor of Gut Microbes and has served as a reviewer for over 100 scientific journals. He has extensive experiences on how to address peer-review statistical questions. Dr. Xia has published five books on statistical analysis of microbiome and metabolomics data: (1) Statistical Analysis of Microbiome Data with R (Springer Nature, 2018), which was the first statistics book in microbiome research; (2) Statistical Data Analysis of Microbiomes and Metabolomics (American Chemical Society, 2022); (3) An Integrated Analysis of Microbiomes and Metabolomics (American Chemical Society, 2022); (4) Bioinformatic and Statistical Analysis of Microbiome Data (Springer Nature, 2023); and (5) Applied Microbiome Statistics: Correlation, Association, Interaction and Composition (Chapman & Hall/CRC, 2024).
